Pipeline Worldwide, a nonprofit known for its work in maternal health, neonatal care, and infrastructure development, has a clear mission: to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in underserved areas. Their work is focused at the Moyo General Hospital, a critical hub for care in the region. Ohana One, renowned for its medical mentorship and cutting-edge technology, has partnered with Pipeline Worldwide to amplify their impact.
Through this collaboration, Ohana One provides Smart Glasses and the accompanying Remote View software from TeleVU. These tools allow medical professionals in Uganda, such as Dr. Chris Wasswa, to connect in real-time with mentors like Nurse Practitioners Julie Sundermeier and Donna Myers. This innovative telemedicine approach supports local medical teams by providing guidance during complex cases, ensuring timely and expert care for high-risk pregnancies and other critical scenarios.
Currently, Pipeline Worldwide utilizes one pair of Smart Glasses granted to them from Ohana One. This technology empowers local practitioners with instant access to remote expertise, particularly valuable in unique or high-stakes cases like premature twin births. This integration is part of a broader effort to address systemic barriers, including medical stigma and resource shortages, which deter women from seeking hospital care.
The success of this partnership hinges on comprehensive training and support. Ohana One, led by a dedicated team, ensures that every user is well-equipped to maximize the potential of these tools. Training sessions are supplemented by practice calls and ongoing support via a WhatsApp group, where the teams maintain regular communication. This hands-on approach ensures the technology remains accessible and effective, even as schedules and circumstances evolve.
Pipeline Worldwide’s commitment extends beyond hospital walls. Recognizing the interconnected nature of health and infrastructure, the organization also funds clean water initiatives. The construction of wells in the Moyo District of Uganda directly addresses the risks of waterborne diseases like Zika virus, which contribute to maternal health challenges.
