advances in remote training

Progress in a time of Coronavirus ..

Despite curtailed travel to mission sites abroad, the limitations brought about by this global pandemic have brought our remote training programs to the forefront. Through our collaboration with organizations such as Intersurgeon, ReSurge International, and Mending Kids, we have established over 20 sites for advancing surgical education with our remote training program. Technological software paired with smart glasses allow us to literally see through our mentee physcian's eyes and teach as if our mentors were there.

Dr. Pedro Santos recognized by the Plastic Surgery Foundation

Dr. Santos, one of our outreach surgeons in Matola, Mozambique, was selected as one of the inaugural class of Global Learners for the new Surgeons in the Humanitarian Alliance for Reconstruction Research and Education (SHARE) program of The Plastic Surgery Foundation.

Building Foundations in Tanzania

While delivering our smart glasses to our surgeon mentees in Tanzania, our volunteer Tarek spent some time building student desks, caring from our Ohana at home.

GLOBAL HEALTH INITIATIVES

Global Health Initiatives (GHI) is a student-run organization at UCLA that aims to provide sustainable, continuous care and aid to global communities. Partnering with OhanaOne, GHI’s current project focuses on creating curriculum presentations and teaching biweekly English lessons to medical staff in Mozambique via Zoom. During off weeks, our 17 member team holds office hours structured to retain concepts from the previous week and incorporate terms learned into simulated conversations.
